Arnoldo Wald is the founder of Escritório de Advocacia Arnoldo Wald and head of its arbitration team. He is a professor of the Rio de Janeiro State University and was associate professor and is doctor honoris causa (1998) at the University Paris II. He is also a former chairman of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) and former general attorney of the State of Rio de Janeiro. He has been a member of the Brazilian Bar since 1954 and was a member of the French (Paris) and Portuguese Bar.
He has been acting as counsel, arbitrator and legal expert in numerous domestic and international arbitrations for the past 20 years. He has also represented clients before the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court, Superior Court of Justice, federal and state courts in lawsuits in support of arbitration.
He is currently a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (since 2003), vice chairman of the ICC Brazilian Committee, and chairman of its Arbitration Commission. He is also a member of the ICC Latin American Arbitration Group and is listed in the roster of arbitrators of the most prestigious Brazilian institutions.
Professor Wald was ranked as the Brazilian leading lawyer in arbitration and litigation and most in demand arbitrator by Chambers Global (2009), and has been recognised by the Brazilian press as the most quoted author by the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court.
He is editor of the Revista de Arbitragem e Mediação and has authoured numerous books and articles on arbitration, corporate law, banking law and administrative law. He is fluent in French, English and Portuguese.
