Javier Robalino-Orellana

Javier Robalino is now a named partner at Paz Horowitz Robalino Garces, having moved from Pérez Bustamante & Ponce Abogados, one of the leading law firms in Ecuador, in August 2011. He is actively involved in the fields of oil and energy, international investment and commercial arbitration. He is also a foreign associate of King & Spalding and a summer associate of Cantey and Hanger.
Mr Robalino has served as director and consultant of the Quito Chamber of Industry, consultant and member of the regulatory streamlining committee of the Office of the President of Ecuador, and assistant to the president of the Supreme Court of Ecuador. He has also been a professor of administrative law at the Catholic University of Quito, he is presently a professor of administrative and international law and coordinator of the graduate programme at San Francisco de Quito University, and is a visiting professor at Carlos III University Energy Institute in Madrid.
Mr Robalino graduated as doctor at law from the Catholic University of Quito and completed an LLM programme at Duke University School of Law. He also participated in a negotiation programme at Harvard Law School, and obtained a diploma in Political Science from the University of California and a diploma in Comparative Law from the University of Texas.
Mr Robalino has written numerous publications and books dealing mainly with administrative, tax and investment law. He is an arbitrator at the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre, a member of the Energy Arbitrators’ List, and vice president of the Ibero-American Forum on Administrative Law. He is a member of the Academic Council of Cremades Calvo & Sotelo of Madrid, among other memberships. He has been recognised as a leading practitioner by Chambers, Latin Lawyer and Who’s Who in fields such as international arbitration, energy and litigation, since 2005.
