Clayton Utz

Doug Jones is a partner at Clayton Utz, where he is the head of the international arbitration practice group.

Doug has extensive experience as arbitrator and counsel in international and domestic arbitrations under the ICSID, ICC, LCIA, AAA, KLRCA, SIAC, DIAC and ACICA Rules. He has also been regularly involved in the use of ADR in international disputes.

Doug is a chartered arbitrator and president of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), president of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), vice president of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration group (APRAG) and a member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). He is a foundation Fellow and graded arbitrator of the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia (IAMA), an arbitrator member of the Society of Construction Arbitrators, president of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation Australia, member of the ICC Australia Arbitration Committee and Fellow Western Australian Institute of Dispute Management (WADIM).

Additionally, Doug is an editorial board member of Global Arbitration Review, co-editor-in-chief of the International Construction Law Review and editorial board member of the International Trade and Business Law Review. He is a Professorial Fellow and a member of the Melbourne Juris Doctor Advisory Board of the University of Melbourne and an Adjunct Professor at Notre Dame and Murdoch Universities, Australia.

In January 1999 he was made a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to construction law and dispute resolution.

His expertise in international arbitration and construction has regularly been recognised by his peers.

Doug Jones is named one of only five ‘star individuals’ in Australia, by Chambers Asia Pacific 2011 for his work in construction and alternative dispute resolution.

The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration 2011 named Doug Jones as one of the Leaders Worldwide and he is one of only three highly recommended individuals in Australia. It notes ‘Doug Jones at Clayton Utz is held in the highest esteem’.
