Sergio Bermudes is the founder of Sergio Bermudes Law Firm.
He graduated in Law from Guanabara State University Law
School (re-named State University of Rio de Janeiro) and took
a PhD course in the History of Roman, Canon and Portuguese
Civil Procedure, at the University of São Paulo (USP). He is professor
of Civil Procedure at the Pontificate Catholic University of
Rio de Janeiro; member of the Institute of Brazilian Lawyers, the
International Association of Procedural Law, the Ibero-American
Association of Procedural Law, the Brazilian Institute of Procedural
Law, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He
was one of the five members of the Commission appointed by
the Brazilian government in 1985 to review the Brazilian Code
of Civil Procedure.
He has sat as co-arbitrator and chairman in several arbitration
proceedings and has represented clients in many others.
He has also appeared as an expert witness before national and
international arbitral tribunals and United States courts. He was
appointed judge on the State of Rio de Janeiro Electoral Tribunal
from 1986 through 1988.
He is the author of several books, essays and treatises on a
wide range of legal issues, published in Brazil and abroad.
