Biography: Mergers and Acquisitions
Gerhard Wegen is a partner in the firm's corporate department and based in Stuttgart. He is both a US and German qualified lawyer, and admitted as a foreign lawyer to the Brussels Bar. Gerhard Wegen's practice focuses on M&A, corporate finance, private equity, joint ventures, and international arbitration in this context.Gerhard Wegen's recent M&A work includes advising the following clients: Leighton Holdings (AUS) in the ACS (E) bid for Hochtief (D), Banque Fédérative du Crédit Mutuel SA (F) on its €5.2 billion acquisition of Citigroup Deutschland GmbH; Robert Bosch GmbH on various cross-border transactions, including the takeover of Hägglunds Drives AB from Ratos AB (S); Basic Element (RUS) on the acquisition of 9.9 per cent in Hochtief AG; Swiss Re (CH) on its acquisition of General Electric Company's (USA) worldwide reinsurance business for €5.8 billion.
Gerhard Wegen was recently singled out as one of the top 10 senior rainmakers in M&A by the German legal directory JUVE. IFLR1000 named him one of the leading lawyers in his field. The Expert Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers - Best of the Best 2009 listed him as "Best of the Best in Mergers & Acquisitions". Gerhard Wegen gets similar acclaim for his work in international arbitration.
Gerhard Wegen studied law in Hamburg, Geneva, Tübingen and at Harvard Law School. He has been a professor at the University of Tübingen Law School since 1997. Gerhard Wegen is fluent in German, English and French.
