Rowley, who is now chairman emeritus, continues to bring insight and connections gained in the past five years building a career as an international arbitrator. He is a member of the illustrious 20 Essex Street chambers in London (and is also chair of GAR's editorial board). One of Rowley's largest recent cases was Vivendi v Argentina, which he steered to a conclusion as president. Ultimately, the panel awarded the investor a US$105 million award that has been described as "magisterial".
Lower down the age range, Robert Wisner takes the lead when the firm is retained as counsel. Wisner joined as partner from a Washington, DC investment arbitration boutique. There Wisner took the lead or co-lead on a series of groundbreaking treaty cases, including UPS v Canada. Sources in Canada say no group is more visible in its pursuit of major cases, particularly treaty disputes. PetroCanada is one of the team's current referees.
