David Foster

David Foster is a partner in the London office of O'Melveny & Myers LLP, specialising in international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution. He has extensive experience in the conduct of complex and high-value commercial disputes on behalf of international parties, and has particular expertise in disputes arising from power, energy and infrastructure projects and the offshore oil & gas industry. He has represented clients in numerous ad hoc and institutional arbitrations, including investment treaty disputes, as well as acting in cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Privy Council and House of Lords. He was a member of the team representing India's government in the defence of a US$1.6 billion investment treaty claim relating to the Dabhol power project and has recently acted for Moscow Oil Refinery in the successful defence of a US$300 million arbitration claim arising from the construction of a polypropylene production facility.
David is a graduate of Brasenose College, Oxford, and served as an army officer before qualifying as a solicitor in 1997. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the LCIA, IBA and British Institute of Comparative Law. He was recently ranked as a leader in his field in the 2007 editions of Chambers Global and Chambers UK.
