Fernando Peláez-Pier
Fernando Peláez-Pier is the leading corporate partner at Hoet
Peláez Castillo & Duque based in Venezuela. He is a prominent
member of the global legal fraternity. As an expert on inward investment,
Dr Peláez-Pier has helped several of the biggest international
corporations develop their businesses in Venezuela, including Mitsui,
Sumitomo, IBM, Samsung, United Airlines and Renault.
Dr Peláez-Pierメs career to date is both interesting and exceptional.
He led the global advancement of lawyers by helping to
set up the Latin American & Caribbean Forum for the International
Bar Association (IBA) back in 1974. In 2003 he was
awarded the Professional Merit Award by the Caracas Bar Association,
and as a member of numerous legal committees, his drive
and enthusiasm for staying involved in the global legal fraternity
has not lost its momentum. He continues to play a major role in
the IBA and is currently the organisationメs secretary general and
elected vice-president.
Dr Peláez-Pier is qualified in México and Venezuela and in the
mid 1970s he practised in Paris in London for five years relocating
to Venezuela in 1977. He has had a wide-ranging career. From
advising on a landmark free-trade agreement between Venezuela,
Colombia and Mexico to working on the first ever subway system
in Venezuela, He has been involved in many of the major business
developments in the country. Aside from conducting high level
deals, he has also taken a wholehearted interest in commercial and
IP litigation, he co-chairs the litigation and alternative dispute
resolutions area of practice of his firm. His extensive international
experience and looking after foreign clients has taught him to never
undervalue the importance of cultural differences, whether you are
involved in a commercial transaction, in litigation, a mediation or
an arbitration.
