The large portfolio is consistent with Lovells' reputation as a firm where litigation and contentious matter to the partnership's overall financial performance per year. A rival describes the firm as "having a good team".
The team is led by Philip Capper in London. He is well regarded in London, with a particular reputation for construction work. He also teaches. In 2000, Lovells merged with German firm Boesebeck Droste, a firm well-thought of for dispute resolution in the market, giving it a capability of some note in Germany. Voelker Triebel in Duesseldorf and Robert Hunter in Frankfurt are listed in The International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration. Triebel is "very experienced", and the younger Hunter is dual-qualified with experience working in London, Hong Kong and New York. In Hong Kong, Tim Hill is also regularly listed in directories. He also majors on construction disputes. In New York, the firm now has partner Ed Schorr, who has developed a mixed-international disputes practice over the past 20 years. Schorr joined this year from Brown Raysman. The other lateral hire of note this year was Dominic Pellew in Moscow. Pellew joined via Herbert Smith's London and Paris offices. He speaks English, French and Russian. The missing ingredient at present perhaps is the single 'big name'.

International Arbitration
At Lovells we understand that, for our clients, only results matter. As with the other forms of dispute resolution which we handle, in international arbitration our focus is on being proactive and innovative, and responding speedily to our clients' needs. We see every dispute through the eyes of our clients and consider a range of strategies and outcomes, at a cost which is proportionate.
Lovells' international arbitration group is one of the world's leading arbitration practices. Our team of highly experienced practitioners is at the forefront of developments in the field. We were the first firm to act in an investment protection arbitration involving parallel claims under the Energy Charter Treaty, a bilateral investment treaty, and an international contract. International arbitration demands specialist technical legal skills, wide knowledge of a variety of industry sectors, and a high level of cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
